Foundation for Environmental Research and Innovation (FERI)

Foundation for Environmental Research and Innovation (FERI Trust) is a multidisciplinary research and project execution organisation registered as a public charitable trust in India since 2015. We collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and private sector entities to design novel interventions, translate research into deployable solutions, and scale them as replicable models.

Through the active involvement of national and international researchers from leading universities and organisations, FERI Trust undertakes transformative projects aimed at societal and environmental impact. The Trust pioneers applied research, technology channelization, pilot demonstrations, and regional level implementation in climate change, coastal resilience, satellite assisted blue economy transition, and robotic eco-restoration through consortium based partnerships. Our focus is on translating research outputs into policy relevant interventions, scalable technologies, and enterprise driven solutions.

Our Significant Research and Innovation Interventions include

• Onsite Valorisation and Zero Effluent Discharge System: For pollution abatement in the Ashtamudi Ramsar Site (Sponsored by State Wetland Authority, Kerala)
• Robotic Aquatic Weed Management System: Integrating robotic harvest, onsite segregation, mechanical valorisation, and circular economy pathways for environmental accountability, sustainable harvest and postharvest management of water hyacinth
• Offline Trade and Catch Reporting Application: Integrated with Satellite IoT for sea-to-shore (ICT) fisheries trade, catch linkages, traceability and regulatory compliances (Resinnov Blue project Incubated by Agri Business Incubation Centre, ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, Kochi)

Researchpreneurship Framework

FERI Trust operates under a Researchpreneurship (Research & Entrepreneurship) framework, bridging R&D with real world applications and market linked innovations. While significant research outputs are generated within laboratories and academic institutions, translation into field deployment and market adoption often remains limited due to multiple influencing factors, including changes in researchers’ career trajectories, institutional team transitions, shifting funding agency priorities, project hopping, and IP theft by career scoring foxes. Acknowledging these systemic challenges, the Trust is building a foundation to implement a Lab-to-Market approach through technology and research based entrepreneurship, ethical research translation, innovation deployment, and enterprise creation.

Our Positioning

FERI Trust is not a conventional capacity building or training organisation. We specialise in Researchpreneurship, delivering the research gap identification, solution design, prototype development, minimum viable product (MVP) testing, field translation, replication, and market deployment. This approach enables seamless progression from research discovery to technology deployment, enterprise creation, and policy adoption. Besides, we do offer our technical and research expertise as service for projects/programs design or execution. 

Our consortium approach integrates academic institutions, implementing NGOs, industry partners, and government stakeholders to ensure scientific rigour, field effectiveness, and scalability.

Engagement Model

FERI Trust has established collaborations with government agencies, corporates, NGOs, and private entities for technology channelisation, project execution, business vertical development, and commercialisation. We position ourselves as a technology and innovation partner rather than a CSR grant recipient, and work alongside implementing NGOs to enhance project value, impact, and outcomes.

For government entities, we offer policy aligned project services and translational solutions in climate, environmental, and coastal domains.
